Special Investigations and Enforcement
The MED includes a Special Investigations Unit and Enforcement Unit that employ POST-certified (Peace Officer Standards and Training) criminal investigators and civilian compliance investigators. These units work to ensure that licensed marijuana businesses and employees are compliant with Colorado law. The Investigations staff are also available to assist our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners in matters that have a nexus to the regulated marijuana industry in Colorado.
Some of the duties of the Special Investigations and Enforcement units:
- Conduct proactive regulatory investigations and inspections of the Regulated Marijuana Industry.
- Support law enforcement investigations using regulatory authority. If there is any indication of criminal activity, the respective law enforcement agency with jurisdiction is immediately looped in.
- Verify the location of a primary caregiver cultivation operation (grow sites) to local governments or law enforcement agencies.
Please note: The Colorado Department of Agriculture is responsible for ensuring that hemp cultivation is in compliance with CDA and USDA rules, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is responsible for ensuring that hemp products are manufactured by registrants subject to CDPHE requirements.
For inquiries about hemp cultivations contact the Colorado Department of Agriculture.
For inquiries about hemp products and hemp product manufacturers, contact the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

The Caregiver Cultivation Information page details how MED can work with law enforcement to provide information on cultivation addresses.
