Solving complex challenges
The MED's Marijuana Sciences Group consists of technical professionals with backgrounds in chemistry, biology, statistical analysis, computer science, and quality management. The group, which is made up of the Physical Sciences Team and the Data Analytics Team, helps to protect public safety and solve complex policy, enforcement, and technical challenges through their development of new approaches to improve the MED's efficacy and efficiency.
Physical Sciences and Data Analytics
The Physical Sciences Team members:
- Are the subject matter experts for testing and sampling regulations, laboratory methods and practices, and product safety.
- Have a working knowledge of cannabis manufacturing processes.
- Perform audits of marijuana laboratories
- Assist MED staff with the biology and chemistry of cannabis production
The Data Analytics Team members:
- Are the subject matter experts for data, statistics, and technology and key to the MED's data-driven approach to regulation.
- Obtain, process, summarize and present highly complex inventory tracking data, which enables the MED to identify and quantify priorities based on risk.
- Automate processes, streamline workflows, provide the data for public-facing reports and dashboards
Assist other state and local agencies with data analysis and technological issues.
